suspension help for 65 stang
my steering is so bad for my stang and but its gotten better i got my gear box rebuit..now i need my power steering pump rebuit....but also when i drive it it moves like if you ron a boat....im low on money..and i know it needs aa alinment but it needs more...i got some "polythreowe"or how ever you spell it. end links...what other major polythrewes do i need so it wont feel like that or what else....i seen a lot of classic stang fans in here so i have a question about the after market 1 inch sway bar or the 1 1\8 do they do a difference???do they improve the handling better?? do you guys recmend me gettting one how many incehs in the stock sway bar???
suspension is not something you can tackle like that, you have to address the whole thing. not just front swaybar.
if you were to just update to 1 1/8 inch swaybar you would end up with severe understeer as the front end wouldf be much stiffer than the rear. the fix is then to adda 3/4 inch swaybar to the rear, which reduces the bodyroll and oddly enough stops the understeer and makes for a more cornerwilling car..
but the first, improvement you absolutely categoricly must make is lowereing the upper controllarm wtich involves drilling four holes, and other than the power needed to run the drill is absolutely free!! (this is the exception to the rule that there is no free lunch) Its how shelby made the mustang handle in 65, and it still works today.

I had the same problem you are having as far as the car rolling around. Try checking the tie rods, center link, and the idler arm for excessive play. Check the shocks and the springs for wear. Also, check the bushings on the lower control arms. As far as the sway bar question, you'll notice a lot of improvements with a bigger sway bar. Just listen to deuce_454 about the rear sway bar. I used a 1 1/8 front sway bar and a 3/4 rear sway bar on my '68 mustang and it made a lot of difference. You'll definately want to get the car aligned after any suspension part change.
