swap from split rims to solid rims

this is my situation. I have a 1965 ford School bus (f700) with split rims on it. I want to switch to solid modern rims, maybe 8 lug pattern instead of five. Can I swap spindles with a more modern solid axle front end and will more modern hubs go on my rear axle....and which years should I look for ?

The easiest way to go about this would be to identify the exact front and rear axles you have on the truck and then cross reference that axle(s) to the ones having disc wheels in that period (For example you may find the correct hubs on a F 600 dump truck). It would be mean most likely finding another vehicle with disc wheel hubs instead of spoke wheel hubs and just performing the changeover.

Worse case scenario would be upgrading axle assemblies from a later vehicle.

Find a truck shop

Find a tire shop that does heavy trucks in your area..they have available evry kind of wheel known to man in those places..they shoudl be able to help you out..

Solid wheels have been out for a long time now and you may find a set in a truck wrecking yard..One should not have to change anything in way of axles or hubs and that can get real spendy on a truck chassis which your school bus chassis is..

How can one go about changing from spoke hub wheels to disc wheels without changing the hubs?

One does not have to change the hubs...one can get the upgrade rims to fit those hubs..and then the split rims are now replaced..also will need new tires on the new rims..the old split rim style tires will not work..

:(

OK...I am totally confused now. I am reading the poster has a heavy truck with spoke five lug (outer lugs with wedges) retaining split rims. He wants to go to eight center lug disc.

Now please give me the name of a manufacturer that produces adapters to accomplish this without changing the hub style. Even if he now has five lug disc (not very likely), he would still have to go to an eight lug hub.

And of course if he is going to a disc wheel, he will want to go tubeless (He's going to have to change the wheels regardless).

Please explain to me what it is you are saying.

What I am saying

He does not have to change the hubs to go to a tubeless tire...he can get replacement rims for tubeless tires to fit those hubs..

Now if he really wants to change out the hubs he can do so..Just costs a lot more to do it that way..

Go either way that you want here..All I am suggesting is a way to save some bucks and get a good result..

So what you are basically saying is that if he has spoke wheels, that he merely needs to buy one piece tubeless wheels? This is true, but he also said he wants to go to disc wheel.

And what was the name of that wheel adaptor manufacturer again?
