The good thing about a HEI is you give it 12 volt and it will work so your OK on that . I would just look in to a vacuum switch to control your lock up on your trans . Is that the best way? I don't know but it will work.

Well I have decided that Hei will be the way to go for sure in fact that's the way I went with my 69 Bird and it works great. My big concern is the trans and anything else that the computer controls. The kit from speedway looks nice but I was told it can be done cheaper for sure and since this is a second project the budget is very strict so I will be looking for other way's to do the shifting. Anyone know what else the computer on this car controls? The reason I ask is it got trashed by a whole lot of water and frankly I hate the darn things and can't wait to say goodbye that is unless I need it for something else? I would like to eliminate it completely but how would I integrate the rest of the car once it's gone? Will the rest of the car function without it?
