Not sure I follow exactly what you're saying, but here's the scoop:
An S10 that was originally equipped with a 4-cylinder or the 2.8 or 3.1 60-degree V6 are the small V6 bolt pattern tranny. Any S10 equipped with the 4.3 has a traditional small block V8 bolt pattern. The 4.3 is basically a small block V8 minus two cylinders. 4.3 V6 trannys will swap with V8 trannys. 2.8 V6 and 2.5 L4 trannys only swap with each other. |

The bellhousing is the only difference between the engine the transmission bolts on to.
No you cannot use the 2wd trans with the transfer case, without basically taking both transmissions apart and swapping out the parts needed to make the 2wd a 4wd. As long as you have one apart you could just rebuild it. Not really worth the time effort or money in this particular case. |

those replies pretty much answered my question. I think I will just find a used trans out of another 4x4 s10 and save myself the headache. thanks again everybody. |
