Swapping pump location question

Today I spent most of the morning working on cleaning up the ride, I needed to add some power steering fluid and of course it's almost impossible without a funnel. The air conditioning compressor sits right above the PS pump. Could I reverse the PS and air compressor on the engine? When I remove the air pump I could move one on that side if it's more feasible. Anyone tried this?

Regards
Mark

Hey Mark! Lots of companies are making brackets to move accessories around, but, I think that the best solution to your problem would be a remote reservoir pump!! Then you could mount the reservoir in an accessible area!! Speedway motors has adapter brackets for this change-over for $29.99..
Head mount #910-32904
Block mount #910-32905

Good Luck Buddy!!

That's a cool idea, who makes the pump? I'll look up the brackets tonight

The pump is a GM production item for mid-80's? to late 90's? GM cars. Speedway has the pump also ($79.95) But, I would get a salvage yard pump complete with hoses and reservoir!

Is that a serpentine type pump? I'm still in the V belt age for now. I've been thinking of converting to serpentine but the cost for a new water pump, power steering, air conditioning etc put it out of reach right now.

Ah OldRodder your going to get me in trouble with the wife now. All that Jag rear end stuff there too. Ouch my wallet is having withdrawal pains. Malc that serpentine belt upgrade is tempting but I wonder if I could collect the same stuff from a salvage yard cheaper?

Regards
Mark

Malc,
Glad to see your ok, I was wondering about you after that attack overthere..

I posted that site because itīs all I got over here to search for stuff, you must have it in your own backyard. The only problem with a serpentine system is, break one belt and you lose everything.I did think of buying the kit but I didīnt want a used waterpump, you could get the parts mixed, used and new, quite cheap I should think. (I never use the train.)

Hey Mark, I think that the pulley that speedway offers is for the V-belt! ($44.95!!) I still think that GM offered some early units with a V-belt and the remote reservoir though, Maybe?

Hey Mark, You should be able to change the pullys from one to another, without any problem.

I've never really been a fan of the serpentine belts for just that reason Malc, they do look much nicer when all tricked out. 1Bad80 do the serpentine PS pumps rotate the same direction as the V Belts? I kinda like the remote reservoir idea. Does the res need to be mounted above, even or ????

I'm my new shroud is at the welders right now. I figure with the new shroud design I should pick up about 4 inches of space between the block and the radiator. Should have room for a remote PS reservoir then.

Regards
Mark
