Sweet Anola Gay I am backfireing

Hello all,

New to this site and Kind of new to the hotroddign gig hence I have a question.

I picked up a 1966 BelAir with a 454 in it our of a winnebago and a 650 cfm edelbrock Carburetor, I turned over my fuel and air mixture to 2 and a half turns because this is what I was told was a standard setting for a carburetor and since then it seem that when I put it to the floor I am backfireing from my intake manifold. I also have a leak in my exhaust manifolso my question is which of these problems would you geuss is causing the backfire or if neither sounds right what might yall believe could be the problem

Thanks,
Tew New Guy

Turning the screws 2 and 1/2 turns isnt gonna adjust the carburator perfect. I beleive you turn each one all the way to the right until the engine starts to stumble, then start turning it the other way until the engine reaches the highest RPM. Also Check your timing, It may be the cause of your backfiring.

Could be many things causing this....I would check for vacuum leaks, a good tune up. etc
