I picked up a 65 th-400 this weekend for the some of hard parts to rebuild my th-375. turned out to be a switch pitch. I think i would like to use it. What should i do with the converter? I havent seen anywhere that sells new or rebuilt switch pitch converters. should i just take it to my local transmission shop and have them flush it? Does anyone rebuild these things? Cost of a rebuild?
I already took the trans apart down to the center support and it looks clean no metal fillings or junk in fluid. fwiw

I converted a 400 turbo over several years ago, worked very well. I got my convertor rebuilt by Aarons transmissions in Springfield Mo. I have no idea if they are still in business. There are several hard parts that are different, these will need to be changed and if memory is correct I had to install an orfice to restrict flow to the front pump.
I used to hook those twin pitches up to my brake light switch . With your foot on the brake you have the high stall for your big cam to bump -bump and not have the big idle speed differential that the low stall speed would necessitate. You can also take off hard while barely toe`ing the brake pedal in high stall and when you level out let off the brake pedal and it will feel like another shift.
Just reliving a little of my youth. Since those old twin pitches were mostly in land barges they didn`t get the abuse that tore them up. 15 years in an Olds Dealership and I never seen a mechanical failure in the fins. The throttle switch and the apply solenoid were the usual suspects if they weren`t pitchin`.
I had a switch pitch T-425 trans axle in my 1970 FWD Chevelle. I used the smaller ST-300 converter in the trans axle , small block chevy engine adapted .
There are still some parts out there for them. The small solenoid switch was hard to find, I imagine some folks found a way around that.

Crosley, I too would like to see pics of this. Did you use a Caddy/Olds front clip, or what? What did you do about the no longer needed rear end? Thanks.

Sorry for taking this thread off subject.. last post here for me.
1966 Toronado front suspension in the Chevelle. Did you know the Toronado were sub frame cars?
Blown with 6-71 small block chevy motor adapted to the trans axle .
here is a photo of the Chevelle I found on flickr... I did not install the SS badges or the carb scoop on the car. The 12 bolt rear differential simply sat there holding the car up. The car does not really look like it is FWD till you smoke the front tires!
The Chevelle was in several magazines, Super Chevy video , a make for TV pilot show (Chevelle was in back ground scenes) the TV show pilot flopped.
Most folks do not know I built custom street cars decades ago. Had some cars on covers of Car Craft, Popular HotRodding.
The Chevelle last was seen in Virginia
I also modified the T-425 trans axle for a bit firmer shifts. T-425 is a t-400 internals , that run in opposite rotation.
usually when I romped on the Chevelle , I would close the carbs secondarys .. shift the trans , then open the carbs back to WOT.
the very first time I pulled a WOT 1-2 shift the drive chain of the trans axle broke.
