Post switching to posi

hello again. im sort of new to the concept of rear ends. my el camino has a open differential i know. i want to change it to a posi. is this possible without buying a whole new rear end (you know, case, gears, axles, etc.)? or can i just buy differential gears and replace the ones in my el camino? i dont know what my gear ratio is but i think its fairly high. my plan is to put in a 3.73 gear, would changing from a high gear to a lower one effect changing to a posi? sorry so many questions. thanks

Dont quote me but i think you can buy a posi unti from Jegs or Summit, i think its just some gears or something to replace ones in the differenctial....not 100%

You will need to buy a 3-series posi-unit(Differential) there are various manufacturers, Auburn, Eaton or the stock GM types. Then you get a 3.73 gearset and have a rearend shop install them. you pays your money and you makes your choice.
