Switching Valves

Earlier I talked about using 14014416 heads on my 84 vette.
Well now I def have to cause my 3998920 heads that came off the vette one has a crack in it. I am going to switch out the valves cause the vette valves are bigger than the 416 valves. Do i have to modify the heads to switch the valves???????

Yes, the valve bowl/pocket has to be cut, the chamber relieved and a new seat established.

If the 1.94 valve stems are worn they are trash.

You will need to port the 416 heads, opening up the bowl under the valve and rework the ports to get the full effect of adding larger valves to the 305 heads.
The ports and valves have to work together.
A new valve job is required.
When done right its very effective. Really wakes up these heads.

You can do the porting yourself and then get a new valve job to finish it.

new budget valves are not that expensive if the valves are worn.
If using on a 305 motor you can consider porting and using the stock 1.94" valves again. it works. just the larger 1.84" intake valve+ porting works a bit better.
lots of options there.

The key is keeping it simple and low cost.

You need to inspect the valve stems and the margin thickness to see if they will take a regrind to put them back in service.

Here is a pic of the desired ported form
