t-350 1st and reverse at same time

this is a sb 350 with a t350 traney, ever since the trany was rebuilt, with a shift kit - trany has all 3gears in drive -neutral and reverse and 2nd are fine also park. The problem is when manualy shifted into 1st the car wont move, feels like reverse clutch is also being engaged. a friend told me that he thought a check ball -or valve was improperly instaled?? Unfortunatly he passed away a couple of months ago, before he could fix this. Does some one know what he was refering to Thanks Larry.

There are some trans-brake kits that do this intentionally. Not sure how to tell if one of these was included in your "rebuild", but one of the resident gurus should be able to guide you through the ID process...

this had a shift kit instaled when it was rebuilt in about 1990 , but i dont remember any mention of a trans brake at the time it was rebuilt. but you could be right, this is a 49 chevy street rod, so a trans brake would't be much use, I'm guessing ,but anything is possible Thanks Larry

your deceased pal may been correct. A check ball in wrong spot, vavle body gaskets swapped.

i've seen snap ring left out for the center support, cause a binding in reverse and manual low gear. Center support is pushed forward into gear train since the snap ring was not installed. Just a thought
