Manual transmission is always best in my opinion. All hot rods should have a clutch pedal.

LOL ....Real hot rods always have a clutch pedal. With that said. If you are looking forward to "spirited driving" it wouldn't hurt you to have a back up transmission waiting.........

Don't hold me to my word, but i thought the 3.11 sag were only put in the lower powered four and six bangers. I know we put them behind some low powered v-8 and they held up well. But you are going to have a motor of over 300 hp, be prepared and have a spare tranny. That 3.11 will get you out of the hole faster. I know of one that was put in a old school bus when it lost its tranny, and it was geared about the same as the origilnal tranny.

Going Deaf!!!

I have been down that road and would never again use a 350. Spend the money and upgrade to a 700r4 and you will be able to enjoy your ride both from a nois elevel and also at the pump!!!

Go go with the manual trans..... rowing through the gears increases the grin factor.

And the longevity of that classic Saginaw is directly proportional to hp and traction. Not much HP & or not much traction should result in long tranny life.

trans

Sell them both and buy a Muncie 4 speed. LOL! It would depend on how you want to drive it and where you are going to drive it. The 350 would probably hold up better, but nothing better then running through the gears. Tough call.

Our first question should of been, is it set up for a stilck or auto? Then the second question should be how much work are you willing to go threw to get it that way? If it's a stick and you want it that way, i'd opt for better tranny than the sag. If it's a auto, and you want it that way, i'd opt for a 200 4r and have your lower gears for fun and the overdrive for cruzzing. There are several reasons i like the 200 4r. If you ever change your mind down the road (and i have several times) you can change things back, because you won't have to get a new driveshaft again. I still have my 350 tranny and if my children want to put my nova back to original, it easy to do.
