I went to the school of hard knocks ... where the tuition is high but the retention is exceptional !

I started going to that school 36 years ago. I might get my diploma next year! LOL

It would if you still use the radiator cooler in line with it, I plumb them inline after it goes through radiator cooler.

Does it matter if I ONLY have it going to an aftermarket cooler mounted infront of the radiator?? right now the lower cooler lines is going to the bottom of the cooler and the top line going to the top of cooler. The fluid would be getting pumped up through the cooler. Does this matter or will it work??

In a stand alone situation like yours ... it should not matter ... the fluid is going thru the cooler. As a matter of fact ... as long as you just are using one cooler ( in the radiator or stand alone ) ... it should not really make much difference.

Hayden automatic transmission coolers suggests doing it this way ... when adding a additional cooler.

My 2 cents...

I use a rather large plate and fin type cooler (as opposed to a tube and fin) and that is the only cooler I run. For better or worse. It sees no zero degree weather.

Now, I've some trans pro's explain it to me in such an analogy; after you heat a piece of metal nearly red hot, do you throw it in front of a fan to cool, or do you dunk it in some water to cool it quickly?

The difference in air to fluid cooling and water to fluid cooling.

I've used an infrared temp gun and shot the stand alone cooler after a brief 3000 rpm stall. The temp spiked to some 290* on the *in* !

Here lately I've been thinking of using BOTH coolers as pictured above in Deuce's post to 'normalize' the temps some. Who knows what the temp may be at the end of a full drag run with a burnout, dry-hop, pre-stage, stage, big stall as the lights fall and then finally the run.
