T-350 Direct Drum

My th350 rebuild has been going smoothly but I have couple of questions.First is I'm having a problem fitting the direct drum piston.I'm confident I have the seals on the piston correctly, both the inner and outer lip seals facing down and he lip seal on the drum facing facing up I'm assuming this is the correct way.The problem is I can't get the piston seated in the drum,I've chased both seals around but it just won't seat.Any tips on how I can solve this problem. Thanks

I just did my first rebuild last week. It fought me a little too and I can't help but think it was due to that center seal facing upwards.
What I did was just lube it up really good with ATF and trans lube and rotated it back and forth as I used a seal tool. I found that a .008-.010" feeler gage almost worked better than the tool. Just be careful not to nick the seal. But try rotating back and forth... or hold the tool in one spot and rotate the piston. It'll go... then remember to do the air checking before you final assemble. Remember it's low pressure... like 25-30lbs.
I got my car up and on the road on sunday. I was really excited to try out the trans and everything seems to be okay with it. Had to fix a minor coolant leak and now I'm waiting for a day over 35 degrees to do some more tranny testing.
Good luck!

TH350 Direct Drum

That was a fast response,Thanks.
Yeah it seemed to me too that it's the center seal in the drum that's what was hanging me up.I tried using a feeler gauge but I'll give a try again tomorrow. Thanks again.
