T-350 Rebuild DIY - First Time

I've got a th350 core sitting around that needs to be rebuilt and I plan on using it for my v8 bug build.

Could I easily rebuild this myself with no experience whatsoever? Or should I just have a pro rebuild it?

This link has encouraged me.

I like the fact that it'll make for a stronger tranny and I'll have a Manual/Automatic Valve Body.

I've heard they're easy transmissions to rebuild and the cost of a kit is anywhere from $150-$250. I find it a plus learning how to rebuild a transmission I will more than likely keep for a very long time.

On the flip side my Father and Uncle both have had their transmission rebuilt by a reputable race shop for $375 with no leaks, problems and a 6 month warranty to boot.

Get an ATSG Manual $15 or Haynes Manual, video $25-$30. Rebuild kits for the TH350 are cheap. Here's Standard & HP kits. There are a few parts that don't come in the Master kits that you'll need to order seperately like the band, adjustable modulator & filter. Read the 1st link for some Info. I'd get the HP kit with the Red Eagle clutches.

I agree with SSedan, this is something you can do yourself.

However a manual or vid will help wonders!!

I did my first with nothing but the kit, it turned out ok.....but I never did get into the reverse clutches.

Get the book by Ron Sessions, I use the master rebuild kits from Oregon Performance Transmissions. They are complete with new band, modulator and filter. the only other seals you'll need are the dipstick tube and detent cable. OPT can be found on ebay. I've bought two of there kits and they're very good kits. $375 is pretty cheap but you get what you pay for sometimes. I'd recommend a new converter also.

there is one special tool that youll need
its used to take the big snap ring out where the steels and friction plates are.

Thanks for the help guys!

I'm thinking of possibly just going with the B&M rebuild kit. From the link provided and looking up the part # (30229), seems it's a complete overhaul kit with a step by step manual...?

I plan on getting a new torque on converter as mentioned. I'm looking into getting the B&M 2400 stall (rated 2,300-2,500 rpm) (#20404).

Could one of you guys point out a picture and the name of the tool?

You'll need both of these.
