t-350 trans with stall speed converter problems

i have a th350 trans i put a shift kit in and a b&m 2000 stall converter its behind a 305 with a mild cam the rear is a 3.07 i think the tires are 295/50 r 15 with the brake on i can get the rpm up to 2500 and do a one wheel peel floored it will shift 1 to 2 at 5000 and chirp the tire.now heres my question idle is about 800rpm when i sit at a light a long time and go to take off i acts like its in neutral and i have to rev it up to 1700 to take off and it grabs hard is this how its supposed to work? never had a higher than stock converter before. thanks dave

From your post , It sounds like the trans is dropping out of gear at an idle.

The trans "bangs' into gear as you try to take from a stop after sitting for a short time??

If the trans is dropping out of gear , that is not the stall converter operation. There is a problem with the trans.

Was the trans a fresh rebuild ? IS it a high mileage unit?
