TH400 is a good tranny for a high performance engine.
700R4 is a good mileage tranny for low to medium output engines.
Of coarse the 4L80E is good for high power and mileage.

Got a pic of the bad crossmember?

Depends on your build/goal/funds.
Tell us more about your build. Like what car you have, engine, rear gear ratio, tire size, most important purpose of said vehicle. You want street machine? all out drag machine?

Saying something is 'stronger' is great. However this is typical hamfisted, bigger is better-ism. The TH400 takes a lot of power to turn, has 3 speeds and a pretty low (numerical) 1st gear.

The 700r4 and its newer variant the 4L60e have been used deep in the 10s and even farther.

The TH400 was used in some pickup trucks behind the 305. But if you're dead set on a 3spd non OD trans, use a TH350 instead of the 400.

A thumper cam SBC does not need a Tubbo 400; some will tell you it needs a different cam.
