Hi all...I have a '79 T/A with a SBC and a Chevy bolt pattern TH400. I'm putting a Pontiac 400 in it soon and want to use that TH400...I know they make an adapter plate that allows you to mix and match TH400 trannys and engines....
Question is, what other considerations do I need to think about? I know the plate is about 1/8" thick I belive...what will I have to move around? will the existing driveshaft still fit correctly? Anything else I need to be aware of?

The adapter includes spacer washers to use to position the TC correctly. I've used the TCI on many occasions- both Chevy engine to BOP trans and vice versa, always workrd just fine. Follow the simple instructions and you'll be fine, IMO. You will want the TCI p/n 230001.
Aside from shimming the torque convertor, is there anything else that needs to be addressed, such as the driveshft, etc?
How strong are these adapter plates? I'm guessing the 400 is going to produce ballpark around 350+ hp...will they handle that? Will the shims put more stress on the flexplate, torque converter, or trans input shaft?
The Camaro I pulled the 455 Pontiac from ran 12's and hooked hard enough that I broke the windshield out of it at Speedworld dragstrip. I used the same type adapter to run the Pontiac 455/Chevy TH400 in the Camaro as the one I told you about.
There are no worries w/the 3/16" added thickness, just use the supplied spacers to bolt up the TC.
