T-400 Input Shaft Bushing

Can anyone tell me why my Hughes' rebuild kit and the Ron Sessions TH-400 super publication insist I use the correct 'threaded' bushing puller and installer for the sun-gear-shaft bushings on my T-400? They make it sound like there is absolutely no way I can remove or install it without totally trashing my transmission! I've removed and installed many bearings, races and bushings in my day, sometimes not in the most conventional manner, but always with success.

Any ideas here or anyone had a bad experience?

Thanks, Larry
