T-400 kickdown switch

My truck has gone long enough without a kickdown switch. And it was bought without one from the previous owner, I have no idea where it would mount. I assume the accelerator pedal. Does anyone have a picture of a stock GM late 80's early 90's TH400 switch?

When I went down to NAPA they said they could not even order one for me. Which is strange, as Schuck's could. Around here NAPA is the place to get parts and fast as the folks at Schuck's usually either have no idea what I am talking about or take over a week to ship the part in.

I just recently did a TH400 upgrade to my 82 truck. In my case, the kickdown switch is interconnected to the accelerator pedal. Off to Pull-A-Part, and took it out of the first truck I looked at. Pulled as much of the wiring as I could, but someone had beat me to the underchassis wire, so I fabbed that one up. Works fine. Butch/junior stocker.

To the best of my knowledge you cant get an original style TH400 kick down switch anywhere but the junk yard. (I've looked!) I had one but it was in a toolbox that was stolen. I still have the wiring but no switch. I will have to go to a junkyard and get one. There are after-market kick down switches but the ones I've seen connect VIA cable to the switch from the same spot that the kick down on a TH350 or 700r4 does (on the carb)

For now tho however, the trans modulator has been doing a good job of kicking it down, I haven't seen a need for the kick down switch. I'm sure i'll need it, I've only driven the truck a couple times since the engine and trans swap was done as it is not licensed yet. At this point I've only mashed the pedal down once maybe twice momentarily.

i have some of these just laying around form past part outs you can find one in the junkyard if you find a th400 truck most common is in the 3/4 and 1 tons in the 77-80 years

we still have a 79 C20 beater truck its 350 and th400 and 3.73 14 bolt all factory. the kick down is a slider switch and it screws onto the accel pedal mount bracket

also have an 80 K20 plow truck it is 350 th400 and 205 all stock factory and has same deal in it

really super simple

dirt common....

it is just one wire,

orange

the plastic of the switch is light tan

if you need a pic of a switch lemme know and i can take one here of one of mine....

good luck

Got it taken care of. Bought a switch and bracket from a 82 Suburban.

For anyone that tries to do this in the future, note that an accelerator pedal from 73-87 truck will be bent in the opposite direction of a 88-98 truck. Instead of being bent to the left, it will be bent to the right. It will mount to the floor bracket just fine, but you will have to drill a new hole in the firewall for the throttle cable (about 6-8" to the right).

What I did is cut up the bracket, and welded that up to fit my truck and reused my own pedal.
