I have been looking around and several people have posted issues with TH400s not shifting, but I'm not sure that they are exactly the same problem. With mine, the shift lever will not physically move back into park. I can shift down to 1st and 2nd and into drive but not neutral, reverse, or park. I did just replace the pan gasket and filled with fresh oil. The problem did not start until then so I'm thinking maybe I've pinched a vacuum hose or something when I put it back together? (I've looked and can't really see that this is the case.) This problem also seems to have gotten worse over the last couple of days to the point where it will always get temporarily stuck in the forward gears. The fluid level looks good. It will eventually shift back into park after messing around with it, sometimes all I'll have to do is shift down to first and it will "unlock" the rest of the gears, or shift the t-case to neutral and that will also generally "unlock" it. Any thoughts?

You need to drop that pan again. Might have some dirt or another obstruction mssing with the manual valve. Does it shift fine with the linkage disconnected using only the shift bracket on side of trans? I would drop the pan and have a helper move through rhe shift ranges while you watch the internal linkage and manual valve.good luck.

What type vehicle are you working on? And what type shifter arew you using?

it's currently in a 76 CJ5 on the collumn with twin sticks for the axles. But for all other purposes you could consider the entire setup to be out of a chevy truck.
