T-400 Slips in 3rd after shop rebuild

Just had a stock 400 rebuild at a shop that has been in business since 1907.
Tranny out of a 1984 fleetwood motorhome w/454..W/60k...sat a long time.
It was shifting very well and smooth I thought and then she didn't want to shift from 2-3 and was slipping in 3rd only. Change fluid, filter, mod, same thing.
Pulled tranny and took it to the shop...rebuilt and it is doing the same thing.
I checked the vacuum line,changed mod,new governor..same thing.
Pulled the valve body and all seems to be good there....trying to keep from pulling tranny again as I am 60 and working in the dirt.....help me please.
Shop said bring it back...I said *(!%)^!)$$^)!%^@*($!

I think you need to take it back to the shop. In my opinion you probably have an internal transmission problem.

When you said that it been setting awhile is problem number 1. I would think one of the seal has dried up and is leaking fluid past it. That fluid leaking is the lost pressure to hold the clutches together against the steels. I've heard people using a tranny stop leak to cure that problem. I know of one who had a little luck, but that was in a car. He drove it off an on for a while until it softened up the seals until it worked. Then he changed the fluid to get it out of the tranny. That is hard to do on a motor home. I would think your going to have to pull it again and make sure they change all the seals. All The SEALS. I've been in some tranny shops and seen some of the left over tranny kits with all the left over parts that were never installed. I've gotten some seals from them out of old kits.
