T-400 tailshaft?

I have a TH400 from a chevy pickup that had an np208 behind it. The trans has 30,000 miles on it and shifts great. The tailshaft seems to stick out about 2 1/2" from the case, would i be able to bolt on a tailhousing from a different TH400 and use this trans in my malibu? From what ive read the TH400 comes in three different tailshaft lengths 4, 9 and 13" Thanks.

no... the shaft length you describe is the 4x4 shaft which is shorter than a 2 wheel drive shaft is

I had to do that..you need the tailshaft and the proper tailshaft housing..you do understand that the tailsahft is the first to go in and the last to come out on one of those so you might as well freshen the clutches and such while you are in there..

Yeah i know about the whole trans having to be torn down to switch shafts. I just figured if i could use it as is, i could spend that money elsewhere. Im going to get a trans from competition transmission in North Tonawanda NY. Right around $800 bucks Thanks again.
