T-5 on to a Y block

I have a recently completed 1956 Ford sedan with a 272 Y block and 3 on the tree. Great motor but high rpm on the highway. I have a 1988 T-5 from a Mustang complete with bell housing, clutch and shifter. What might be the best way to go: adapter on the block to use everything or a simpler adapter on the bellhousing to use just the tranmission?
Has anyone used an adapter for this application?

Thanks,
Whyblock

Y block adapter

Hello... ******************** ... what company did you get it from and what is the model #? I need to be sure that it will do the job ... so much info out there about adapters on the block and those that bolt on to the Y block bellhousing and which is better and what parts will fit and so on ... for example, does the T-5 spline fit right in to the Y block clutch?? Any info you can give me is appreciated.

Asking to buy is the same as posting info about a part for sale.

Try wilcap for the adapter.

http://www.wilcap.com/webdoc8.html

Pat at wilcap will be able to help you.

You will probably need a new clutch driven disc.

Later, mikey

Go to mummert's for the adapter and all the needed parts. That is where the majority of us "Y guys" go. He has the adapters for the t-5 and C4.

If you need more specific help with the swap there is a thread currently going about a t-5 being mounted in a pickup on y-blocks forever.

Hope that helps.

5 to yblock

i did myn at home, used a truck bell houseing , had the 292 flywheel drilled for the clutch from the mustang made a abaptor to go in the bell housing bore to bring the the demention same as the t5 spiget. made my own throw out tube adaptor and used y block throw out and release fork.. you need axcess to a lathe and and a supply of tubeing re the bell diametre reducer. i left the flywheel drilling to a pro machine shop, remember if useing the mustang clutch bolts are metric . the 5spd with od made for a great combo. cliff
