T-56:Can I find these in a junkyard or am I dreaming?

Going to a junkyard tomorrow and was wondering if I could find one of these, what specific Mustangs or other cars would I look for? It would go in a 450hp 400sbc, 3000lb'er '41 Chevy pickup, btw would the shifter be too far back for this? And I know I have to get a adapter plate.

Thanks,

Charlie

I found one in j/y near me, but they wanted $2000 for it and wouldn't warranty it. Said it came out of a totalled car and that it shifted, but wouldn't guarantee it would work. For that kind of money, I can buy a new one and it comes with a warranty.

I'm going to a pick and pull, so what models should I look for?

Depending on whther you want the .76, or .50 overdrive 6th, any 1993 to 1996 F-body (Camaro Z28 and Firechickens). The later model F-bodies with LS1 are different.

I am running a 1994 LT1 and T56 from a Z28 in my Datsun240Z. I picked up the drivetrain from the local classifieds and paid $1400 for the whole thing from radiator to driveshaft and everything in between. Many time the local classifieds are a better source than JYs as they aren't usually into the whole profit thang!!

Thanks for the models and years, the JY is having a half off sale this weekend so it doesn't hurt to look.

I noticed you mentioned pick n pull. If you are in San Jose, also try GM Sport Salvage on Oakland road. They only deal in camaro's, firebirds, corvettes etc and the prices have been pretty good in the past for me.
