t bucket rear suspension
Hey ya'll,
I'm missing my original rear leaf spring suspension on my 1923 t bucket I'm rebuilding due to, well, ignorance of others... Looking at the dimensions and perch plate it looks like an 1/4 eliptical set up. I am wondering if anyone out there has used a mono-leaf, made their own from compact car rear leafs, or has any suggestion of a good set up minus switching to a coil-over suspension. Thanks, Mutt |

Sounds like you could replace the quarter ellipticals, install a pair of shocks, and a panhard bar and be good to go. The springs will act as a trailing arm in addition to a spring.
Scrounge the wrecking yard for a good matched set of leaf springs off a mini pickup or small car, cut off the rear half of the spring (the end that connected to the shackle) to the right length to re-establish the proper wheelbase. If you use a multi-leaf spring you will have the option to soften the spring rate quite easily if necessary. With a mono leaf you don't have that option. Andy |
