t350 to 327 flex plate problems

My son has a 1965 chev 327, we bought a 77 turbo 350 out of a camaro to use with it. it had come with a 168 tooth flex plate. we have tried every small block starter that the local dealer could come up with and none will work. it seems to me the plex plate is to big. I have had alot of opinions from my local chevy motor buddies and they all are stumped also. What about a 153 T? Anyone experience these combo problems? this seems so strange to have this problem with a small block chev. Any Idea's? thanks...........

The starter for a '77 Camaro with Turbo 350 transmission should work unless the Camaro had a non-stock transmission. Can you get the starter from the Camaro? The only flex-plates I know of were the 153-tooth (12-3/4" diameter) and the 168-tooth (14" diameter). The smaller one matches a starter with bolt holes directly opposite each other, while the larger one matches a starter with the bolt holes slightly offset (one hole about an inch or so forward of the other).
