t350 gear changing problems

Hello, could any one give me some advice on my t350 gearbox (on sbc 350). it will not idle when in gear, does not hold 1st gear (always jumps into 2nd at 30 kms\h)? the gearbox also does not kick back when i accelerate?
my flywheel dust cover is missing aswell and i dont know whether this has an affect on this issue but will be getting 1 anyway.
could this be a vacum line drama? (i've checked it and it looks ok)
could this be a diff issue?

pls help?

Will Not idle in gear is an engine problem. Perhaps mixture adjustment? Idle speed? Is the engine stock or high performance camshaft ?

Is the vacuum line for the trans hooked to direct manifold connection? Should be hooked directly to intake manifold, not spliced into other vacuum lines

Is the detent - kick down Cable from the trans hooked to the carb and adjusted for full pull at wide open throttle ?
