T5 Speedometer question.

First of all I have no idea the exact year of the transmission, and there is NO identification tag mounted anywhere on it.

It replaced the one in my 1991 S-10 2WD when it went in for warranty work and they found out it was easier for them to just swap the transmission than to fix whatever they found wrong.

I finally have a use for this transmission since the truck is destined for a V-8 engine swap anyway.

What can I do as far as hooking up a mechanically driven speedometer, my transmission has the reluctor ring and sensor with only a connector where the speedometer drive adapter would normally go.

I asked a source that I consider reliable, and he stated that my tailshaft housing would need changed but in the end I would be using the standard speedometer gears as what is installed in the TH-350 and many other manual transmissions.

Is there any way an adapter is made for this application, or is a new tailshaft housing my only option?

You could install the speedometer from the donor vehicle, as long as the PCM is not involved.

No PCM. Back then it was an ECM called the CCC, and did very little at best.

I want to retain the mechanical speedometer in the car.

I "can" swap tailshaft housings with a mechanical speedometer housing from an older S-10.

u still have to take the reluctor off., and then see if theres a spot to retain a regular speedo gear
