T56 bellhousing alignment
I'm adapting an LS1 T56 with stock bellhousing to an unusual engine choice using a homemade adapter plate. I need to align the bellhousing to the engine to make sure my crank and input shaft center lines are within spec of one another. This is usually a pretty straight forward process, except for the fact that the T56 bell doesn't have a nice round hole in the back like most bellhousings do.
Any ideas? The only two options that I can see are:
1: Source a Chevy bellhousing with a round hole in the back and trust that the factory's quality control is good enough that both bells are within spec to one another.
2: Have a back plate machined for the T56 bell JUST to do an alignment with.
Not terribly excited about either of those options. Anybody have any other ideas?

If you're doing anything seriously high performance, you'll want something more robust than the factory clutch cover. Or a blanket.
