What distributor do you have on the 350? The stock tach simply got it's signal from the TACH terminal on the original engine's HEI. If you have a HEI on the current motor, then there is no issue. If you have points on the current motor the tach feed wire needs to connect to the distributor side of the coil. Again, no issue. If you have some sort of aftermarket distributor that's different from a stock HEI, then we need to know what that is.

If your tach is hooked up as I described above (and assuming it's a V8 tach and not a 6 cyl tach) then the problem is not the distributor.

i purchased a digital tach signal from pheonix automotive with dip switches to set signal. it took 10 minutes to mount and wire it and 5 minutes to set dip switches and my tach is now working correctly. i took car to tranny shop to fix speedometer. they replaced a black 27 tooth drive gear. my speedometer is now working but basically is showing double what i am actually doing. my tomtom says i am doing 20 and speedometer says 40.gotta drop tranny pan and count teeth on drive gear.. to figure out what gear i actually need.thanks for replying and i apoligize for late response. any other advice is appreciated
