Cool Tach woes

Hey fellas. I switched over to HEI ignition in my '69 Camaro and the dash tach will not function. As soon as I turn the key to on the tag pegs out and won't fall back to zero unless key is off. Had it check out by a reputable gage shop here in Detroit and it checked out fine. What is this? Bad Ground? I should tell you that I had M & H fab up new front lighting and engine harnesses and the proper connections are on the wiring harness. Also do not get my console gages to function either. Was hoping one of you guys had same problem before I have to go into test light/voltmeter purgatory under the dash tracing wires!

Thumbs up

hey there,

I have heard that the camaros have questionable dash grounds over the age of time. Make shure your entire dash has a nice ground and not corroded.

I would take a test meter that has a tach setting and check the tach post on the HEI.

Then, if that checks out, jump the dash tach (temporary) to the HEI. Compare your RPM's to the test meter to see accuracy. Take it a step at a time...electrical problems can be very confusing, but they are always logical.

Don't forget to put in a shift light!!
