Tachometer problem

I have a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am. My factory tach is starting to flicker like jump around a little but not all the time. It works but it jumps a little bit. What could be my proplem?

Most likely a poor connection at the pick up. Pull the wire at the distributor and clean the connection. If that doesn't do it, check for a break in the wire inside the insulation.
