tail lights and dash lights quit

Okay- I am working on a 83 c-10 pick up and have now just had my dash and tail lights quit, Replaced the switch still no go, replaced all the fuses .... I can jump from the red to brown on the switch and the taillights work

The turn signals and headlights work fine.....the hazards are very dim and will barely light up the indicators

Please Help

Check the instrument panel ground first. There is a black wire that should be grounded to a post on the parking brake mechanism up under the dash. If the wire is off or broken, it causes a lot of strange problems.

sounds like a bad connection at the switch on the tailight connection at the switch. Either that or both switches are bad in the same place.

The instrument panel light feeder is fed from the tail light hookup .It splits at the switch then goes to the instrument panel fuse, then back to the switch .

The instrument panel bulbs ground through the dimmer part of the switch and it grounds through the switch body. Could be a printed circuit problem there.Should be easy to nail it down with a test light
