Hi everyone. I was wondering what I call my box on my truck. Someone stole my tailgate and I wanted to replace it but have gotten some bad info on the type that it is and have bought a couple that don't fit. It is a 97 Chevy S10 3-door stepside or styleside. I'm not sure what it really is called. If anyone could help me in this matter or give me a suggestion on what else to put back there in it's place. Not a net or as my brother said angle iron and wood. I think not. Thanks for your help. Just Deb

I call that the styleside, but like you I'm not sure what the actual name is that the General used. Call a local salvage yard and describe it as you just did and they should be able to help you get one that'll fit.

But, your brother has a point, just a couple of 2 X 12's would be about to the top of the bed

here is an idea, take your box to a GM dealer, find the parts folks and I would bet my next paycheck they will have the answer. This could keep you from buying a 3rd tailgate. I do hope you were able to get a refund on the others, otherwise consider yourself seriously ripped off...............good luck

Thanks for your help. They took back one of the shells. But wouldn't take the hardware. Because my son-in-law tried to assemble it and then realized it was to big to go on my truck. He works for a paint dealer. They considered the parts used. Thanks again for your help. Just Deb

Call your local GM dealer and talk to the parts dept. Give them the last 8 digits of the VIN and they can tell you what you need down to the color of the truck. Hope this helps.
