I was reading in one of the rodding magazines awhile back that the editor knows where Steve McQueens Pony car is. The owner will not allow it to be photographed and has not fixed it up but is sitting in a barn. He did state that he has no intentions of parting with it and wants to keep it just as it was in the movie. Here is a very interesting link about the producing of the movie.
