I ordered one of them DVD things. I'm game to learn everything that I can. I would like to see Barry use that shrinking disk on his Vette though. That may be a real stretch. LOL

Brian, how well do those radio ear muffs work. I have 2 guys at work that love air hammers. I swear, I think one of them would use his to remove rubber bumpr covers if he could figure out how. LOL

Unlike some folks, I thought the sunchaser video was a very good introduction to the shrinking disc and hammers and dollies. Ken should have been wearing ear and eye protection in it.

If you have never used a shrinking disc, Wray's video will help you understand the basics. The explanation of using a slapper and dolly was particularly good. I am hesitant to be critical of Wray since he is such a generous teacher, but he should have been wearing eye protection in it, and I was a little disappointed that it was not longer....still well worth the small amount of money it costs, and he certainly deserves the business!

One thing both guys should do (my opinion) is run the disc on the metal until it stops instead of removing it while it is still spinning.

I was working on a shrinking disc video when Wray's came out, so now I can move on to my next video instead. There is some shrinking disc use in my first one, so that will have to do for now. I was fortunate enough to get some very good advice/feedback from Ron Covell who has made a ton of great videos.

Now Ron Covell, HE has some great videos, on that I sure agree. I have a number of them and they are super informative, every minute of them. Kens, I don't know John, two tapes, FOUR hours...... I honestly think if it were cut to two hours, two and a half at the most it would be much better. I am not saying the info isn't good, but HOLY CRAP there is a bunch of filler that should have ended up on the cutting room floor.

Ok, why stop the disc on the panel?

The ear muff work GREAT, I use them every day.

Trying to look at it from a rookie perspective, I found Ken's video to be packed full of good information...yes, they could have editted it down a bit, but the information more than made up for the shortcomings. Better too much than not enough.

On a slightly different subject, preparing for the resources section of my next video, I watched Kent White's video "shrinking magic", and John Glover's 'aircraft shapes" again...first time in a few years... great videos!

Stopping the disc on the panel is safer than pulling it of still spinning...especially when using the sunchaser disc...also known as the flying blade of death... (just kidding Ken) There is no reason not to keep it on the panel until it stops.

I seem to learn through hand memory..the repeated use of tools with loose observation thrown in for good measure....that and building on a few good tips from others over the years. If someone says 'that's the wrong way", I'm inclined to try it because it is a great way to learn new things.

Bought the DVD on monday and come home today on wendsday to the thing was on my dining room table!

I was only able to watch about ten minutes but it looks VERY good. I started a repair today on a Mazda door and just in the few minutes I have seen I learned something that will help me in the morning finish this thing up.

I HIGHLY recommend getting this DVD and a disc and get to work learning how it works. Amazing stuff.

Man... He must have sold a bunch of them thanks to Barry. I got mine yesterday too. I watched it last night also. The regular channels must not have gotten much attention last night. The thing has some good information on it. I highly recomment everyone get it, and pay attention.

Yes, that is Wray. A few years ago he started freely teaching Randy Ferguson and we've seen how skillful Randy is. He has helped a lot of people for the love of the craft. He does the same at the International MetalMeet .

Actually, everyone helps everyone at the MetalMeet events, with seminars and projects. Last year Wray spent hours helping someone form a roof panel for a '36 Chrysler on Randy's big e-wheel. This year Dutch Comstock spent a lot of time helping / guiding someone on their chopped Merc project. Randy provided the Willys for other participants to make patterns from. People helping and sharing. That is the atmosphere of MetalMeet events.

Wray demonstrates that with his passion. He is a great guy.

That was the first thing I noticed the short time I was there.

I had never seen anything like that where there was no such thing as a stranger and everyone was helping anyone. It just amazed me!

Body men by nature are not usually like that, if your a rookie in a body shop
you might scream and yell for a week before anyone of the journey men come to help.

You aren't kidding! Those things are scary looking. The flat ones that you and Wray make are considerably less intimidating to use. I have to admit though, i tend to pull it off the panel while still spinning. I'll try to change my ways.

I broke down and bought one of the DVD's.

Wow. Got to believe I will be watching it a couple times.

IMO, its targetted for a hobbyist that wants to do things the right way.

EXCELLENT instruction. It MAY even change some of the "old dogs" opinions.


I was instructed by Dutch Comstock on the Shrinking wheel, but Wrays explanation was great as well. I got alot out of his dent removal instruction.

Time to find an old leaf spring to make a slapper! (thats what he used)
