Talk me out of this...

I've got a line on a Jericho DR 4 speed with roadrace sliders for a good price. I've always wanted a box with non-helical spur gears but I'm not sure I want a 1.0 final drive after having overdrives for so long. The car will be light (2600-ish) with a 416" LS motor, so power isn't an issue. I really don't want a 3000+ cruise and can get around this by running a 3.08 gear. I just don't know how doggish it'll be from a stop, even with the Jericho's 3.08 first gear...

you can buy a tremec 5 speed for 2200.The tko 600 has a 2.87 first and .82 or .68 5th gear. The jerico is great for road racing, doggish off the line is relative? I use a 3.50 gear with .82 o/d that is the same as 2.87 with 1:1
what are you driving and why is it a dog with 3.08 gears?

How about checking with Jerico to see if it can be rebuilt with the ratios you want..

Russ;

You make my job interesting LOL. Back in the days of 4 speeds, engineers would take (rear axle ratio) x (1st gear) and try to get that to equal '9'.

This is your typical 4.11 rear x 2.20 first gear with a 15" rim street tire (say 26-27" tall)

For your DR4 with the 3.08, you could probably run a high 2 series rear gear and be comfy. I sell a fair amount of our M22Z which is a 2.98, 2.04, 1.47, 1.00 typically (we can adjust 2nd and 3rd but this is the most popular).

The easiest way I can equate it to a guy would be to take that same classic example (4.10s w. 2.20 rockcrusher) and if you went to 4.56s in the back, thats the same feel in 1st gear that you would have with your Jerico and 3.23s.

For most guys who are looking to get a 5speed for fuel economy, and the amount of time we drive our cars (especially here in the snow belt), it takes a LONG time to offset the cost of the swap.

I can put you in touch with a guy who has a Z-set in his car if you want.

All for naught, the guy sold it out from under me. Nate, I haven't forgot about your M-22 gear sets!

get a tremec T-56 or TKO 600 if your engine makes any power.

how is the doug nash a better transmission than the tremec?

How many cars do you know of that have a doug nash in your area in a street car and street car version?
how many tremecs? where do you buy service parts?
what are the gear ratios in the nash?

The guy's original buyer backed out, so I'm now the new owner of a Jerico DR4 with 3.08/2.00/1.38/1.00 gearing. Wish me luck! I will now be hunting up a good shifter...

Many options, Jerico sells a tailshaft housing with speedo fitting, weld your own fitting, GPS speedo, mag pickup on driveshaft or wheel, etc.
