Taurus diagnostic code 634...
On a 1993 Taurus GL, 3.8L SFI with axode transmission, I get one single diagnostic code...634 which is "MLP (manual lever position) sensor voltage out of self test range".
I have done the procedure to set the manual control cable to the correct position for OD and know that the sensor is stopped in the correct position. I have also checked the resistance of the sensor at the various stops and find that it behaves as if nothing is intermittent.
Any hints at what may be setting this code would be much appreciated. I've dumped the code and run the car and it keeps coming back as the only code.
I initially checked the codes due to occasional peculiar hunting back and forth between 4th and 3rd gear when driving near the shift point of 3rd to 4th gear. At speeds well above the shift point, the problem is gone.
