Tax Refund? What kinda crack pipe you been smokin?

We go to H&R Block all the time. They said i would get $6000 back. My wife, as usual, feeds me BS and tells me we will get the check in 3 days. Then she finds out, as usual, the truth, that because it's so big it will take 2 weeks. During that time I try to use my Citibank Visa card to buy $10 growler full of beer and they tell me it wont work. This is the same card we paid off when we refi'ed the house in late Nov, and she has racked up $2G's a month on it as per the last bill, so it was at $5,800! Good bye Refund! then back to the brewery, i call the credit card co and they say I've already reached my full line of credit. THIS IS A TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR CREDIT CARD!!! SHE SPENT $4000 IN ONE F'IN MONTH!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Credit cards are pure evil. They are trouble waiting to happen and I've never owned one, never will. Yes they can get you out of a fix when you NEED one, but can put you in a worse fix when you USE one.

I'll stick to spending the cash I've saved, not someone else's. Get rid of it Bull. It may be difficult without the flexibility of spending, but getting rid of the risk of serious debt is worth it.

Unhappy

The whole situation sucks Bull. Years back my brother and his wife almost divorced over her spending with the plastic. They cut them all up, paid them back including the outrageous interest and just did without unless they had the cash to buy. They still don't have one to this day, and holiday in Mexico every year with money they save up in the prior year. Sounds like she may need some councelling on credit debt, and am only saying this out of compassion. Good luck, keep us informed.

Yikes.... We feel for ya buddy...
I had some credit card debt myself..since taken care of. But, that was ME getting ME in trouble...Not someone else.
I had a $6500 Christmas bonus erased to get me out of my debt....I just think of all the money I had and just handed over to the credit card companies because I was so dumb!!!!
Try not to lose your cool too bad. (If she is a good woman)!
Good luck with the fight back to being back "in the black"!

Probably not the best time to bust your rocks, but I was just trying to get a smile from ya. You'll get through it. Sounds like its time to have a LONG talk with her.

I'm sorry to hear that. I racked mine way up earlier in college and managed to get the 8000 paid off finally, but they're getting high again given the crappy part time job situation. A friend of mine works in a warehouse and his wife did the same thing... she just doesn't know when to quit and they're in 40,000 dollars worth of debt.... NOT INCLUDING THE MORTGAGE!!! So he's screwd and filing for chapter 11. Maybe if she's not working you can say "look, you need money for gas, food, and some spending. You're getting $100 dollars per week for all of the above until this bill is paid."

Wow. Unbelievable man! Sigh... women!

Now, now..... All women are not irresponible spenders....just the ones that you know killer.

I for one have never been an out of control spender like that, simply because if I had been we wouldn't have had money for food a lot of the time when we were younger and first starting out. Even now, with both of us working and making a good living, we have a Mortgage to pay and three little mouths to feed and various little debts here and there that are still left over from our "poor" days. The point is, if there are any needs we have that require a larger than normal amount of money, we discuss it together. Chuck stopped carrying his credit card because he admits that it's too easy to just charge something if he doesn't have the cash on him. I, on the other hand, pass up many a good deal, simply because I feel guilty spending that $20 if I could use it to pay a bill.

Bullheimer, sounds like your little woman needs to learn to live in the "real" world for awhile. Maybe she could do without the new clothes for awhile and just make do with what she has. Maybe a few more bag lunches and a few less lunches out with the "girls".
Not to be harsh, but sometimes the little "extras" can get out of control, especially when you have had to "do without" for awhile.
Perhaps if you involved her in the finances (if you haven't already), it will help her learn how to be more responsible. Or, tell her to apply for her OWN credit card in her OWN name and see if the credit card companies will give her one. That might ground her for awhile if she gets turned down.

Just my .02.

Chickie

yes, i agree. it's time to break out the mac and cheese!!! i got the tow truck for sale which was my bad for even buying, but i didnt have a mortgage payment at the time or this house in clear lake (rental) with the tweaker who didnt pay rent or move out till i threw him out; now that my sister has her dui paid off she can start giving me money again and my mom will but her bank just told us that they wont honor our power of atty over her, so now we gotta do the guardianship thing in court. my refund will help in a couple of weeks but the credit cards are going in the dumpster. i just screamed at her last night when she woke up after drinking a bottle and a half of wine because of y mom that she had to get a job. the camaro is still for sale but will be tough to sell w/o any glass in it. going to the adjuster today at 3;30

She may be right Killer. I gave my girl $20 to go shopping the other day and she came back with a CD she wanted and a 6 pack of beer for me.

I might be wrong, but should I give her money more often? I'll have to get back to you guys on this one. Need some time to test this one out.
