TBI Problems...
 
Hey everyone,

I have an 89 Chevy 4x4 with a 350. The car sat for about 2 years in a garage. Last year it was given to me. I drove it home about 50 miles and it sat for another year. Its running rich but seems to run ok, only problem is when you rev it up, let off the gas it acts like its going to die then picks up again. I want to take it on a camping trip with my kids and get it through DEQ.

It has a set of new heads. I put in new plugs and wires last year. Any ideas? I'm thinking the Engine Temp Coontrol sensor and MAP sensor?

i had a similar problem on my 94 tbi on mine it was a clogged egr valve bad fuel filter and also my pump was going out when i found the pump it was the filter then led to the egr

As for running rich. Check the CTS (coolant temp sensor) is there a thermostat on board? Are there any codes set? I would also open the TB & clean it, along with a new filter. Good Luck

I just replaced the CTS, no change. Also tested the o2 sensor and its working as it should.

I noticed 2 potential problems, first pic there is a wire not hooked up to anything??

Second pic looks like its missing a vacuum line??

First picture is the knock sensor plug in. The sensor is on the bottom of the block next to the oil pan. It does need to be hooked up.The second pic, showing a hose nipple , is the VENT for the solenoid it is hooked to. No hose goes on that.
IIRC that is the egr regulator solenoid.Be sure the hoses are hooked up correctly. If you cant find a vacuum schematic underhood, get one, or look at another truck with the same setup. It looks correct but I dont remember which port on the end with 2 ports is the correct port to go to the valve and which is the vent.
lastly I would perform an Intake air control calibration.
The procedure is easy.Check the other things first. Then move on to the IAC adjust. You will also need to verify engine timing before the IAC calibration can be performed.A timing light will be needed .
