tcc problems in 1990 c1500

Hey guys. Im new here and kinda of a beginner in building my truck. Here's a little bout my truck. Its got the 5.7 in it. I've replaced the fbi with holly 650. I've just rebuilt my 700r4 and installed a tci shift kit and a b&m torque master 2000 converter. My lockup. Is staying locked up all the time. I know that's not good. So I cut the a wire on the connector and it seems to b doin better but I also know that's not the best thing either. So my main questions are. Am I on the right track and can I just but a toggle switch on that wire and just manually control it myself? Id really appreciate any help I can get. Until I get my other truck finished this is my daily driver for now so I do need it right. Thanks

I'm guessing that it would be OK.

Sure,, use a toggle switch of some type.

Keep track of the converter locked or not
