home made lathe
In the early 60's I made a home made wheel lathe , backwoods style. I used a 6 X 12 wood beam, made some brackets to hold an axle shaft, after I got the center out mounted it to the shaft and had another bracket to mount a body grinder to gring the thing true. I was using larger hoops from bigger cars, buick, olds, and even bought new firestone 10 in wide hoops. I used horse shoe nails to help hold the hoop in alignment , Horse shoe nails are miniture wedges that I also used for alignment on other welding projects, tack, check for runout etc.
