I followed your guide to adjusting the valves and my car is running better than ever! In fact, i didnt think a carb'ed engine COULD run this good. My vacuum went up and most of the fluttering went away, i have tons of tourqe and acceleration is smooth as ice... If it wasnt for you, i would have traded my car for a civic. you wouldn't believe how many people I've come across that feel that way about adjusting valves. And to think its so simple a caveman could do it!

Adjusting valves along with finding TDC and properly setting in a distributor are the "Big Three", it seems.

But good job, Stroker. And good to see someone who is appreciative- if a bit over the top! lol

I just didnt think adjusting the valve preload had such a major effect. I had been taking all lash from the valves and turning 1/2 turn, but the valves wouldnt seat when i did that. I did the 1/8 turn and it ran amazing. LOL at some of the answers... its not going to be good when the poor guy see this and comes into the room. haha

Seriously though, in 15 minutes or less (if you know what you are doing and have the valve covers off) you could save a lot of frustration.

1/8-1/4 turn (I usually go 1/8) that is ALL that is needed, despite what the Chilton's manual may say.

I have read alot of Tech's posts and he is very helpful and informative. There are many, many here that I rely on. Alot of great people here who really seem like they want to help. Bentwings and F-Bird88 are two I have been hitting up lately. Thanks guys for helping us newbs out.

How about posting a link to Tech's info on setting the valves. I will be doing it soon, while it is very straight forward and not really hard, it is however a PITA.
