looking to add a spool or mini spool to a GM 8.5 10 bolt. I wanted to know what y'all think should be used. Mini or a full spool? Being used for burnout contests and 1/8th mile runs some where in the upper 8's on drag radials.
I understand that the are not safe for street use. There will be non
Just track use. I have read where peple have broken mini spools. Saying that they are not as strong as a full spool. I haven't used them so I was not sure.
Most mini spools manufactures do not recommend mini spols to be used on pavement. If you wanting a locked axle just get a spool. I think it was summit that came out with some really inexpensive spools. Ford mini spools are slightly stronger than GM units. GM mini spools are slightly better "Lincoln lockers". Just my opinion.
Haha funny you ask that. I also have a 85 k20 with a simi float 14 bolt. I welded the rear spiders on it. BUT... it never sees street use and is used for mud bogs. It sets on a set of 40 inch boggers.
If that one breaks you don't have to worry about the wheel coming off or the axle coming out. You will just be stuck wherever you are.
