tell me what mufflers to buy

ok i just ordered some headers and should order a exaust kit and pick up 2 mufflers or glass packs or whatever and 2 exaust tips in the next few days.

CAR: 1982 grand prix with SBC. exaust will exaust straight out the Rear. im thinking to get 2 boom tube tips and 2 mufflers/glass packs.

questions are...
-whats size of boom tube would look good? 3"?
-what muffler or glass packs should i buy? i want the car to be loud and have a nice sound. only 16 so cost is a concern.

Thank you for your replys

How loud they are depends on which ones you get, there is a few to choose from. Go look for some, after all you're on the internet arn't you?

i was just going to get 2 purple hornie glass packs that bolt right onto the the headers but i have to take my car to get a saftey inspection and i dont think it would pass then.... exaust needs to be behind the door and to the edge of the vechile.

Don't tell anyone, but when I had no money, I used a fence post for the exh pipe on my Camino. Then later I did a better job with some pep boys pre bent exh pipe/fitings.

Check out some muffler shops and see what they have.

Later.

Well first off stay away from glasspacks, they hurt performance. For low buck go with the low priced Dynomax Turbo mufflers, they flow fairly well and sound good. Finally don't put the big tips on your exhaust, it will hurt sound quality. Along with that, out my way the only guys running the giant tips on their exhaust systems are the hicks. Keep the tips as close to the size of the exhaust pipe as possible, and don't have the tips sticking out far.

they may be too steep for you but id recomend series 40 flowmasters. i have them on my 76 el camino with a tweaked sbc400 and their plenty loud, but not headache loud. i got mine for 80 bucks, but i knew the guy i got them from real well. mine have 2 1/4" pipe with 3" chrome tips out behind the rear wheels.
