tell me what you think of this interface pad idea
In most shops you'll see your 6" DA paper for 40-220 grit in sticky back, but for 320-2000 you will see it in hook and loop. This creates a little issue with backing pads. So say if you want to foam pad something it will usually be with 320-2000, but there's also occasions where you want to foam pad something in 80 or something that's normally stocked in shops with sticky back. So what do you do? I just grab a piece of 2000 in hook n loop and just stick a piece of sticky back paper on top. It works ok I guess, but I want to make an adapter pad with hook n loop on one side and directly on the other side a leather pad to accept sticky back sanding paper. So it wouldn't be the foam interface pad, just an adapter of sorts so the interface pad would accept sticky back paper. Any thoughts on this?

yeah but most shops use the sticky for that grit. I'll try it out. Just wondering how many others get annoyed about the two types of da paper with usually one in the paint area and one in the body area.
Overthinking...the mind just gets kooky at night on a Sunday.

I'm gonna take the hook n loop from an old piece of 2000 that I already use cause at the end of their usage as an interface adapter it will just be a thin layer of tan paper and the hook n loop itself. I'll glue on a piece of that plastic leather and post my results.

Sounds like a plan. I was just thinking I have an old foam interface pad laying somewhere that the H&L was separating from the foam. If I can find it I may just try something myself. I'm not trying to steal your idea mind you, I just had the thought of how it may be possible.

We'll go out on a fishing trip with him with a couple of buckets of concrete...We'll be rich I tell ya!
I was thinking about that whole concept of simple tools you can make. I instantly thought of wood and all the amazing things you can do it to it shape things and bend things, that annoying interface soft pad only coming with hook and loop, and other knick knacks. |
