Certainly no need for a kit. You can easily smell it. There's no mistaking that ethanol odor.

ethanol testing

I was told that Honda dealers used a glass bottle with a measured amount of water. Mark the water level, add gas and shake. Recheck the water level, ethanol will combine with the water.

I haul fuel for a living and we use a product that is made to check for water. When you put it on the stick it's brown. When you put it in a tank with water it turns red and if there is ethanol, it will turn yellow. You can talk to any fuel hauler and maybe get a tube from them or there yard.

Grab a plastic baby bottle. Put 5oz of water in it, and then add 5oz of water.
Shake well, and then let it set till the gas and water settle into 2 distinct layers.

If you now have 5.5oz of water and 4.5oz of gasoline the gasoline had 10% ethanol in it.
