Test stand, how to guage horse power?
What is the best way to see how much Horse Power my engine can produce on an test stand? My stand is just home made so I am looking for something to adapt to it. Any suggestions would be great, thanks, Dana

make a list of parts and do calculations. take to an engine dyno and test.

In other words you can't, the only way is to take the engine to a dyno shop, pay your $500 or so and make some pulls. That way you will get the engine all dialed in and REALLY know what kind of hp it puts out.

Anything is possible. However, most likely not cost effective to make your own dyno.
I'm sure it has been done with varying results. Search the web. One idea is air flow. An engine is just an air pump. The more air it moves the more hp it makes. So maybe just measuring how much air the engine can ingest would indicate hp (minus pumping losses of course). good luck with that!

or bolt on a generator/water pump/propeller,all with known resistances
