th 250 case, same as 350

Hi guys, i was looking after empty th 350 case to start my transmission rebuild, cause the case in my Nova is cracked over the bell housing. anyway i found a case that looked at first to be a 350, but when i gave it a better look i saw a four pin electric plug on the side and the input axle appears to be different.
after doing some research on the internet i figure it is a th 250.
At first i got rather disappointed but then i was told i could use it if i am just going to swap the internals. ??
I was actually hoping somebody with experience could verify this for me.
Thanks i advance. Kristofer.

Could be either a TH250C or a TH350C - the four pin connector usually designates the lockup torque converter.

a th 250 will have a threaded stud with a nut on it coming out of the top of the case on the right side, just before the bellhousing.

But im not going to use lock up converter, does it matter, i was planning on just swapping the internals from the broken one, she has everything new inside, So this electric plug is just left unused or ,,, ?
Thanks again. Kristofer.

IIRC, you can't swap parts, the case is different in the valve body channeling, and the valvebody is different also(fluid circuit for the lock up feature) along with the front pump and the case area where the pump sits. I took a TH350C to my race trans builder just to replace the case on my TH 350 and was told it won't work. Maybe someone can give a more definate answer?

There is a way to make a lockup case work for a non-lockup, but I don't know what it is. All I know is that I have sold lockup cases to some shops who told me they were modifying them to use in non-lockup applications. This was years ago, so I don't remember who they were either.

yes, it can be done with some mods...
1st you have to change the stator to a non-lockup style stator.
2nd, change the input drum to a non-lockup drum (non lockup wont have the smooth polished tip on the drum)
3rd, you have to block off the valve for t.c.c. apply.
4th, you gotta drill a 1/8th inch hole through the small plate next to the body for t.c.c. control, roughly in the middle of it... its gotta be in the right spot though.
youd be better off finding a non lockup core and going through it, or having someone else do if your not that familiar with automatic transmissions.

Thanks for the info guys, i think i am better off with another core, i truly am an amateur when comes to transmissions. But if we look at the bright sides then this is the time to study and and do some learning. (cause of the bank crisis)
Hope you all will have a great day. Regards. Kristofer.

usually a 1/4 hole is drilled in the non lock up stator suppport .... no hole and the front seal will blow out.
