Th-350 Diagnosing Needed

i have a th-350 out of a 72 nova that i took in and had overhauled when i had the money for it but it was for a future project down the road.5 yrs. went by and i ended up using it temporarily but it did not hold up.i put it in my van and put about 4-500 miles on it.about 5 different times i went to put it in gear and as i did so i got was like the gear selector wasn't hooked up.also it wasn't til the end of those miles that as i was going down the road it would like go in to neuteral.i would stop, wait a few minutes and start it again and be on my way until it went out of gear again.i took it back to the guy that did the work earlier and they don't like anything to be their fault do they?it just had to be my fault right down to installing the converter wrong.i've done this to many times and the converter was new, the radiator was new and the trans cooler was new and that was all the tranny was hooked to the cooler,so it wasn't trash in the lines.he overhauled it again and said he would work with me or i wouldn't have left it.i ended up paying all over again cause it had been five years.didn't matter that it was all wrapped up in my garage all that i have another new motor which it was last time too,and it has about 30 miles on has from the start made a whinning noise that sounds like the front pump.what would cause this or am i mistaken?again the converter is new and i blew the lines out with air and the cooler came off and was cleaned.and the converter was installed right.i did mention this was my (old) tranny guy didn't i ?

I only rebuilt one but it is still going I remember reading in the rebuild book that the clutches must be soaked for a period of time in ATF before installation. If not, and they are put in dry, they go really quick. Atleast that's what I read. Perhaps this happened or it sat relatively dry for 5 years empty causing the clutches to burn up? Don't know, just a thought.
